History

From the historical point of view the Jeseníky region has to be perceived as two units separated by natural borderline of mountain crests. The southern part, i.e. Šumperk Region, and northern section called Jesenice Region, differed from each other substantially in their cultural development during prehistoric time already. In the historical time, following the establishment of boundaries of mediaeval countries the Šumperk Region was part of Moravia when as Jesenice Region belonged to Silesia.
